The Slow Boat Barber

Auckland, New Zealand, circa 1941. A young barber named Earnest James boards a slow boat destined for Egypt, along with thousands of other young men. While on board, Earnest - ever the opportunist - recognises the need for a boat barber and sets up shop, keeping his mates looking dapper for the duration of their journey.

Earnest’s pioneering story is just one of the examples of how our forefathers stared adversity in the face and smiled. It was his fighting spirit that kept me returning to his story and the reason I named the brand after my Great Uncle, Earnest James.
